Delmarva Democratic Delegation Lining up Behind the President on Syria

President Obama's address last night found Senator Ben Cardin pleased with his performance noting that Obama showed no signs of pushing for immediate action.

Cardin voted to for the resolution approved by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee authorizing military action.

Meanwhile, even before the President’s address his fellow Maryland Democrat Barbara Mikulski  announced that she will support the President’s request to authorize air strikes against Syria.

Delmarva Congressional Delegation Divided on Syrian Military Strike

Senator Chris Coons tried to make the case for a military strike against Syria during an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union” program saying that it would deter another chemical weapons attack.

He said that not to act would result in Syrian President Bashar al-Assad would continue to slaughter his people with chemical weapons.

The Delaware Democrat in the Senator Foreign Relations Committee voted to support authorization for military force and added an amendment with Senator John McCain to use military force to change the momentum on the battle field for the rebels.

Senator Tim Kaine Says, Obama Should Abide by Congressional Vote on Syria

PETERSBURG, Va. (AP) - Sen. Tim Kaine is defending his committee vote for limited strikes on Syria. But he says President Barack Obama should not order the attacks if Congress refuses to authorize them.

The Democratic junior senator said Thursday that Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime must be punished for its suspected use of chemical weapons Aug. 21 in a rebel-held suburb of Damascus.

Syrian Intervention Resolution Gets Backing of Delmarva Senators

Maryland Democrat Ben Cardin cast his vote for a resolution that would limit an air strike against Syria from 60 to 90 days.

It was approved by the Senator Foreign Relations Committee on a 10-to-7 vote yesterday.

In addition, the measure would narrow the conflict to Syria’s borders and prohibit U.S. troops on Syrian soil.

Cardin pointed out that unlike Iraq there was clear evidence that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad used chemical weapons to kill more than 1-thousand people.

Senator Cardin Back President's Aims in Syria, Congressman Harris Leans Against Air Strike

Senator Ben Cardin told Secretary of State John Kerry at a Foreign Relations Committee hearing yesterday that he supports the president's objective in Syria.

However, the Maryland Democrat added that the believed the military response should be limited.

He noted that the White House resolution language does not close the foor on the use of U.S. troops on the ground.

Delaware Senators Back Military Strike in Syria

Delaware’s two Democratic senators say they back military action against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the wake of evidence his regime used chemical weapons that left around 15-hundred civilians dead.

Senator Tom Carper said he tended to favor the President’s request to authorize military action adding that the U.S. goal should be aimed at weakening Assad and bolstering the moderate rebel forces.

Meanwhile, Senator Chris Coons called for decisive action because of the chemical weapons attack.
