DOVER, Del. (AP) - Police say a man was found shot to death inside his Dover apartment.

Delaware State Police said in a statement that 911 callers reported that a man had been shot at the Alder Park Apartments early Wednesday.

When troopers, Dover police and paramedics responded, police say they found the unresponsive 44-year-old man inside his apartment with multiple gunshot wounds. The man died at the scene. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Police say no suspects have been identified.

MIDDLETOWN, Del. (AP) - Police haven't released the motive behind the fatal shooting of a Delaware state trooper that led to an all-night standoff which ended in the suspect's death.

State police Superintendent Col. Nathaniel McQueen says 26-year-old Burgon Sealy Jr. was killed Thursday when he emerged from his home armed and "engaged police."

McQueen says Sealy shot Cpl. Stephen Ballard multiple times Wednesday afternoon after the trooper fell to the ground from Sealy's initial gunshot. The trooper died at a hospital.


MIDDLETOWN, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police say officers have come under fire again at a home where the suspect in the fatal shooting of a state trooper is holed up.

Police said in a statement that officers came under fire at the home in Middletown about 4 a.m. Thursday. Police say they blew off windows with explosives, but have not entered the home. On Wednesday night, they blew the front door off its hinges, but did not enter.

SMYRNA, Del. (AP) - Two 15-year-old boys have been charged with attempted murder in the shooting of a man in Smyrna.

Smyrna Police Department Cpl. Brian Donner tells news outlets that a 19-year-old man was shot Saturday afternoon in the Trevi Restaurant parking lot. The man suffered a wound to his upper torso area. He was treated at Kent General Hospital and released.

Donner says an investigation led police to believe that two local 15-year-olds shot the victim over an ongoing property dispute.

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Dover police say three people were hurt in an exchange of gunfire during a home invasion this week.

WBOC-TV reported Tuesday that officers responded to an apartment complex a day earlier on a report of a home invasion in progress.

When they arrived, officers found two men lying on the ground between buildings suffering from gunshot wounds. An investigation revealed one of those men was a victim of the home invasion and the other was a suspect.

EDGEMOOR, Del. (AP) - Authorities say a 15-year-old boy has been injured in a shooting.

New Castle County Police said in a release Monday that officers were called to the Edgemoor community on Sunday night for a report of a shooting.

Officers found the teen with an apparent gunshot wound and administered first aid. The teen was taken to an area hospital, where police say he was treated for injuries that aren't considered life-threatening.

Police say they investigation into the shooting is continuing.

BEAR, Del. (AP) - Authorities say they're searching for three suspects after a man was shot and wounded at a New Castle County motel.
Delaware State Police said in statement that an unidentified 55-year-old man was shot in the head Monday in his room at the Glen Motel in Bear.
The victim was taken to the hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Police say two men and a female suspect knocked on the victim's door. When the man opened the door the two men, who were wearing masks, rushed into the room.

31 year old Troy Short of Hurlock has been identified as the suspect who was show by two local law enforcement officers last Saturday night.

He is reported to be in stable condition at the Christiana Hospital in Newark.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that Short fled Worcester County Sheriffs who tried to make an initial stop in Ocean City.

Short apparently crossed state lines into Delaware where the Ocean View Police also became involved.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A Virginia lawmaker wants school boards in the state to designate employees who can carry concealed handguns on school property.

The Virginian-Pilot reports that the bill from Republican Del. Bob Marshall of Prince William County would require those who carry guns on school grounds to be trained and certified. They'd get training either from the state or from the National Rifle Association.

GREENVILLE, Del. (AP) - A Delaware man wounded in an attack at a New Year's Eve celebration in Istanbul says he survived the attack by playing dead.

William Jacob Raak told NBC News he survived the attack by playing dead and staying silent and motionless, even after being shot.

WCAU-TV  reports that Raak's brother says the 35-year-old, a small business owner from Greenville, Delaware, called around 7:30 p.m. ET on New Year's Eve to say he'd been shot in the leg. Michael Raak says his brother was visiting friends in Istanbul.


ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (AP) - Classmates are mourning the death of a Maryland teenager who authorities say was fatally shot by a 15-year-old who then tried to kill himself.

WMAR-TV reports students at Howard High School in Ellicott City wore black on Monday in honor of 16-year-old Charlotte Zaremba, who was slain a day earlier.

School district spokesman John White says Charlotte was "a great spirit" with lots of friends. He says the district is providing counseling for students.

POCOMOKE CITY, Md. (AP) - State police say they've made arrest in a fatal shooting in Pocomoke City on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

Police announced Sunday that 36-year-old Anthony Tunnel has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the slaying of 26-year-old James Allen Jr.

Police say Tunnel was arrested Sunday morning at a hotel in Salisbury and is being held at the Wicomico County jail.

Allen was shot several times on the evening of Dec. 1. Police say he staggered into the middle of a roadway after he was shot and died at the scene.

SALISBURY, Md. (AP) - A 22-year-old man has been convicted of first-degree murder in the shooting death of another man.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that on Thursday, a Wicomico County jury convicted Delonte Bryant in the death of 21-year-old Dommeir Deshields.

Prosecutors say on Aug. 3, 2015, Deshields was found lying in the street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Authorities say Deshields was walking when someone approached and shot him.

Deshields died at a local hospital.

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - A jury will be allowed to hear testimony that a police officer joked about shooting to death a mentally ill black man. 

The Virginian-Pilot reports that a judge is allowing the testimony at the officer's upcoming trial on manslaughter charges.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) - Authorities in Virginia are offering a reward for help identifying the person who fired shots at the Newport News Police headquarters building early Tuesday, damaging several windows but causing no injuries.

A police statement posted online says surveillance video shows a person with a handgun firing shots into the main entrance, an empty office and a secondary building at about 2:30 a.m.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) - Authorities say someone fired a gun at the Newport News Police headquarters, damaging several windows.
Police spokesman Brandon Maynard tells news outlets that the shooting was reported early Tuesday.
Maynard says the building was occupied at the time, but there were no injuries reported.
Investigators say they have watched surveillance footage and believe one person on foot fired the shots. They did not release any additional information about the suspect.

BALTIMORE (AP) - Police say five people attending a candlelight vigil in for a man killed in west Baltimore were shot when a gunman opened fire on the crowd.

Detective Donny Moses said in a phone interview that about 25 people had gathered about 6:30 p.m. Monday at Fulton and North avenues, where 24-year-old Jermaine Schofield was shot and killed early Sunday.

NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP) - New Castle County Police say a University of Delaware student was fatally shot in his car while he was on his way to work.

The department said in a news release that early Saturday, 19-year-old Malcolm Evans was driving to work when a single gunshot was fired into his car.

Police say the car crashed on Country Path Drive. Evans was taken to a hospital, where officers say he died Sunday afternoon.


BALTIMORE (AP) - Baltimore police say local rapper Tyriece Travon Watson, who was known as "Lor Scoota," has been fatally shot.

Police said in a statement that witnesses reported that 23-year-old Watson was driving when an unknown suspect stepped into the street and opened fire Saturday evening. Police say it appears that the shooting was "targeted." Police described the suspect as a black male wearing a white bandanna.

Police say Watson was taken from the scene at Harford Road at Moravia Road to a hospital where he died.

Senator Chris Coons and Congressman John Carney joined the sit-in last night on the House floor where congressional Democrats protested the failure of Speaker Paul Ryan to bring a gun control measure to a vote.

Congressman John Lewis, a legend of the Civil Right era, led the protest urging a vote on measures that would expand background checks and keep some suspected terrorists from obtaining firearms.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that Carney who is running for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination said that he strongly supported Lewis’s efforts.

The Baltimore Sun reports that the dedication comes in the wake of the mass shooting at a gay night club in Orlando, Florida in which 49 lost their lives and over 50 were wounded.

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Police in Wilmington say three boys and a girl ranging in age from 12 to 16 have been injured in a shooting.

Police said in a statement that officers responding to a report of shots fired Tuesday night near Elm and South Van Buren streets found a 16-year-old boy shot in the legs and arm. Police say a 15-year-old boy was found a block away shot in the hand, abdomen and leg and a 13-year-old girl and 12-year-old boy were found shot in a nearby home.

A vigil was held in Rehoboth Beach by the LGBTQ community in the wake of the night club shooting that left around 50 dead and similar number wounded in Orlando.

Around a hundred showed up to comfort each with several noting that June is gay pride month.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that one told the paper their first reaction was whether they knew someone there and then that it could have been one of them.

The paper reports that LGBT groups expressed grief and frustration at the attacks on social media.

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Dover police say a 17-year-old boy has been arrested and charged as an adult after the shooting of another 17-year-old.

The shooting occurred on Saturday afternoon. Police said in a news release that the 17-year-old victim was wounded in the upper torso and was taken to a hospital, where his condition was stable.

Police say officers quickly identified 17-year-old Michael Taylor as a suspect, and he was arrested without incident. He's been charged with first-degree assault, numerous weapons offenses and illegal gang participation.

Police say that his body was found outside the Waterside apartment complex in a stairwell.

One man is dead after being shot in Salisbury on Parsons Road this morning.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that police received a call around 7 a.m. about an incident at the Waterside Apartments.

Salisbury Police Captain Rich Kaiser told the paper that it has not been determined whether it was a homicide or a suicide.

As of mid-morning he told the paper there was no sign of a break in and no one was in custody.

SALISBURY, Md. (AP) - A man convicted of killing a teenager when he shot into a crowd in a hotel parking lot has been sentenced to life in prison.

Nineteen-year-old Jarrett Stokes had been convicted of first-degree murder in the death of 17-year-old Rakim Russell of Fruitland. Stokes was sentenced Thursday in Wicomico County Circuit Court.

WMDT-TV reports  that on Aug. 2, three men got into a fight with another group at a party at Americas Best Value Inn in Salisbury. Prosecutors say the men left, picked up Stokes, and drove back to the parking lot.

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police have charged three people in the shooting death of a man whose body was found on the Port Mahon Pier in Dover.

Troopers said in a news release that 19-year-old Chelsea Braunskill of Camden-Wyoming and 22-year-old Daiquan Bordley of Dover were arrested last week. Twenty-two-year-old Zhyhee Harmon of Dover was arrested Wednesday.

Police say all three are charged with first-degree murder and other offenses in the death of 24-year-old Dontray Hendricks of Dover.

HAMPTON, Va. (AP) - Mourners will gather to remember a Virginia state trooper who was killed by a gunman at a Richmond Greyhound bus station.

A funeral for Trooper Chad P. Dermyer will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Liberty Baptist Church in Hampton. A private burial will follow in Gloucester County.

Authorities say Dermyer was fatally shot by James Brown III at the busy bus terminal, where police were holding a counterterrorism training exercise. Brown, of Aurora, Illinois, was killed by two other state troopers after he opened fire.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia State Police have announced funeral services for the trooper who was killed by a gunman at the Greyhound bus station in Richmond.

Trooper Chad P. Dermyer's funeral is set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Liberty Baptist Church in Hampton. A private burial will follow in Gloucester County.

Visitation is scheduled form 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the church in Hampton.
