Two Dover Police on Paid Leave After Shooting

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Delaware authorities say two policemen are on paid leave after they fatally shot a man who pointed a pellet gun at them.

Dover Police say before the officers arrived at the apartment of 52-year-old James Long he called a crisis center line and said he planned to commit "suicide by cop." Police say Sunday's call is not the first time Long had made similar threats.

Arrest in Delaware State University Shooting

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Officials at Delaware State University say one man has been arrested and another is being sought in the shooting of a student at an off-campus residence hall.

University spokesman Carlos Holmes said in an email that Dover Police arrested 25-year-old Marshawn Fortner of Dover Tuesday afternoon. He is charged with assault, conspiracy and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.

DSU Shooting Leaves One Injured, Lockdown Lifted

DOVER, Del. (AP) - A Delaware State University student has been shot at one of the school's off-campus residence halls in Dover.

Authorities say the male student was shot Monday afternoon in the parking lot of a 300-bed residence hall on U.S. Route 13, north of the main campus. The student, whose name was not released, was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. It's unclear where the young man was shot and how many times.

Two Arrested for Drug Related Shooting in Bear

BEAR, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police have arrested two suspects in a shooting at a shopping center parking lot in Bear.

Police announced Sunday that troopers have arrested 18-year-old Brandon Burns of Newark and 23-year-old Rebecca Evans of Newark. Police say Burns shot a 23-year-old man once on Saturday morning in the back seat of a car. Police say Burns and Evans were meeting with the man in order to buy heroin.

The shooting victim fled to a nearby business and was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Man Shot in Hand While Brandishing A Gun At Wilmington VA

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Court documents show a man was shot in the hand by police after he brandished a handgun in the parking lot of the Wilmington Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Charles Jobe has been charged with assault on a federal police officer stemming from Friday's incident. Authorities did not disclose at the time that he had been shot by a Department of Veterans Affairs police officer.

Dover Police Investigate Early Morning Shooting of Teen

DOVER, Del. (AP) - The Delaware State Police say troopers are investigating after a teenager was shot in Dover.

Troopers say they were called Tuesday around 1 a.m. to the 200 block of South Governors Avenue. Troopers who arrived on scene found a 19-year-old male victim who had been shot twice in his torso. The teen was taken to a hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Troopers say several houses in the area sustained damage from the gunfire but there were no other reports of injuries.

Seaford School District Locked Down Yesterday After Unrelated Shooting Incident

All of the schools in the Seaford School district were put on a precautionary lockdown yesterday afternoon.

Seaford police say officers responded to reports of shots being fired at 1:30 p.m. in the Stein Highway and Sussex Avenue area near West Seaford elementary school which was having field day activities.

The school was placed on lockdown and the students were sent home with their parents.

Shooting Leaves Two Dead At Norfolk Naval Station

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - A base spokeswoman says a sailor was shot and killed at Naval Station Norfolk in Virginia and security forces killed the male civilian suspect.

Terri Davis says the shooting happened around 11:20 p.m. Monday aboard the USS Mahan, a destroyer. Davis would not describe the circumstances of the shooting but said the scene is secure.

Davis says the two killed were both males but she didn't have any other information on them. She could not say if the civilian had permission to be aboard the ship or not. No other injuries were reported.

Police ID Man Killed During Traffic Stop in Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. (AP) - Maryland State Police are identifying a Delaware man fatally shot during a traffic stop.

Police say Wilmington police contacted Maryland authorities for help finding 25-year-old James Norris, who was wanted on handgun charges. Police say Norris was fatally shot Monday in Salisbury after troopers tracking him stopped the car he was traveling in.

When a trooper spoke to Norris, he put both hands in his jacket pockets. When the trooper told Norris not to, police say Norris said one of them would die, prompting the trooper to pull his gun.

Traffic Stop in Salisbury Leaves Fugitive Shot to Death by Police

One person is dead after a shooting during a police traffic stop on North Salisbury Boulevard yesterday afternoon.

Maryland State Police say an armed man with two handguns was fatally wounded after police stopped his far in Wicomico County.

He was wanted by Delaware police.

The 25 year old man has not been identified by police pending notification of his family.

He was wanted by the Wilmington Police Department on handgun charges.

After being stopped the fugitive was warned not to put his hands in his pockets.

More details are emerging from the shooting of a student from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore last Sunday.

Devin Johnson was walking to meet with Toren Tilghman early that morning so they could walk back to Johnson’s home.

Tilghman was jumped by two women from a nearby car.

UPDATE: 12 Dead in Washington Navy Yard shooting

UPDATE: 
WASHINGTON (AP) -  At least 12 people have died in the shootings at the Washington Navy Yard according to officials.
 
During a news conference DC Police Chief Cathy Lanier said that 12 people were confirmed dead.

People are being told to stay in their homes and out of areas as authorities continue searching for 2 other possible suspects. Both suspects are wearing military style uniforms and are carrying firearms. 

There is no indication of a possible motive at this time according to police.

Arrest in Tasley Virginia Shooting

The Accomack County Sheriff’s office has arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of 32-year old James Wyatt of Tasley.

24 year old Jamar Hickman was taken into custody by the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office in Salisbury yesterday.

The Accomack County Sheriff’s office says that an investigation into the shooting found that there was dispute between several people at the same address where shots were fired that caused Wyatt’s death.

Hickman is being held in the Wicomico County Detention Center awaiting extradition to Virginia.

NEWARK, Del. (AP) - Police say a suspect in a double shooting at a Newark motel eluded officers despite a five-hour search.

Lt. Mark A. Farrall says a man shot two people in the rear parking lot of the Americas Best Value Inn on Monday afternoon and they walked into the lobby to report the shooting.

Farrall says a 38-year-old man who was shot in the shoulder and chest area and a 22-year-old woman's back was grazed by a bullet. Both were treated at Christiana Hospital and released.

The Salisbury Police are looking for some community help in seeking two men who tied up and shotTremayne Trader on Sunday night.The 31-yar old Trader was shot in his abdomen and groin area.

Salisbury police say they believe that the armed robbery and shooting resulted in a confrontation with Trader and a woman who escaped as the two men were demanding money from him.

QUANTICO, Va. (AP) - The commander at Marine Corps. Base Quantico in northern Virginia says a shooting in which a Marine killed a male and female colleague before killing himself was isolated to a single building.

Base commander Col. David W. Maxwell told reporters Friday that authorities were called to the scene around 10:30 p.m. Thursday where they found one person dead at a barracks. They later found a second victim dead, along with the body of the suspected shooter, who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Shooting in Annapolis Leaves Man Dead, Woman Wounded

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Anne Arundel County police say a man is dead and a woman is in critical condition following an early morning shooting inside an Annapolis business.


Police were called to the 300 block of Harry S. Truman Parkway about 1 a.m. Monday morning. That's where they found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds.


Police identified the woman as 43-year-old Tracy Lynn West of Crownsville and the man as her estranged husband, 50-year-old Calvin Cofield of Bowie.

Police Search for Suspect in Salisbury Shooting

Police are looking for 19 year old Myles David Lyons in connection with an early morning shooting and stabbing that has left one person dead and two others injured


The incident occurred in the Jersey Road and Burnt Branch Drive area of Salisbury around 3 . am.


The murder victim is described as a 39 year old woman.


An 17 and 18 year injured in the incident have been taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center.

Police Await Interview With Victim of Morgan State University Shooting

BALTIMORE (AP) - Baltimore police say a man shot and wounded on the campus of Morgan State University was there to attend a sporting event.


Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said Thursday that detectives were hoping to soon interview the victim, who was in surgery late Wednesday night.


The man, whose name has not been released, was shot Wednesday afternoon at the campus student center. University officials believe neither the gunman nor the victim is a student and that the men knew each other.

7-Eleven Employee Shot and Killed in Newark

NEWARK, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police say an employee at a 7-Eleven store in Newark has been shot and killed during an early morning robbery.


Police say two men wearing masks, one of whom was armed with a handgun, entered the store on Four Seasons Parkway about 12:40 a.m. Wednesday and demanded money from the employee. Authorities say the worker gave the men cash. As the men were leaving the store, police say one man fired at the worker, striking him in the upper body.


Police say the men fled in an unknown direction.

Man Dies in his Car After Being Shot in Delmar

 

            In Delmar a man died in his car after being shot several times…near an apartment complex on Chestnut Street yesterday.

            The Salisbury Daily Times reports that residents say the incident was just waiting to happen.

            Delmar shopkeeper Jackie Duffield told the paper that he has watched for years…as teens and adults loitered in the parking lot or a green space that is located in a cluster of rental buildings.

            He said loiterers talk on cell phones and then quickly scatter when strangers come around.
