Naval Academy Has New Superintendent

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Vice Adm. Walter Carter is the new superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy.

The academy held a change-of-command ceremony Wednesday in Annapolis.

Carter was recently president of the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. He graduated from the academy in 1981. Carter also is a graduate of the Navy Fighter Weapons School, Top Gun.

He has commanded the Enterprise Carrier Strike Group 12. He also was commander of the USS Carl Vinson, one of the Navy's largest nuclear-powered super carriers. He has flown 125 combat missions.

Court Challenge in Naval Academy Sexual Assault Case

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - A lawyer for a U.S. Naval Academy student accused of sexual assault is asking a federal judge to remove the superintendent from deciding who will serve on a court-martial panel that will decide the case.

Jason Ehrenberg, an attorney for Midshipman Josh Tate, wrote in the court filing submitted Tuesday night that Vice Adm. Michael Miller decided to refer the case to a court-martial, despite recommendations from an investigating officer and Miller's own senior counsel not to do so.

Newcomers Impact Sixth District Senate Seat in Delaware

The district covers the coastal resorts like Dewey Beach, Rehoboth Beach and Lewes as well as inland towns like Milton and Harbeson.

A Wilmington News Journal analysis finds that voters are far different than the rest of Sussex County.

It has more retires, fewer farmers and mostly wealthier households.
