Delaware Democratic Party seal

There will be no endorsement by the Delaware Democratic Party in the race for lieutenant governor and insurance commissioner in September’s primary election.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that the decision was made at the party’s state executive meeting to avoid division within the party.

Robert Gilligan, who was a former speaker of the state House of Representatives, told reporters that it will be up to the rank and file of the Democratic Party to make the decision.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Republican state Del. Glenn Davis is running for lieutenant governor in Virginia.

The tech entrepreneur and former Virginia Beach city councilman announced Thursday he's running to "turnaround" the state's economy.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports Davis will make improving Virginia's business climate a centerpiece of the second-term delegate's campaign.

Officials say that Brown will make the announcement Friday during a picnic at Prince George's Community College.

The lieutenant governor is also expected to make stops in Frederick, Montgomery County and Baltimore on Saturday.

Brown, a Democrat, has served as the lieutenant governor of the state since 2006 alongside of Gov. Martin O'Malley.

Prior to assuming the post of lieutenant governor, Brown represented Prince George's County for two terms in the Maryland House of Delegates, rising to the position of majority whip.
