RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Gov. Terry McAuliffe is announcing a new 20 megawatt solar project in Sussex County.

The governor's office announced Thursday that permits had been approved for the project, which is under development by a subsidiary of Dominion Resources.

The project is expected to produce enough power for 3,500 homes.

McAuliffe has made expanding the use of solar panels a priority of his administration. Virginia has lagged behind neighboring North Carolina in solar generation for years.
