ROCKY MOUNT, Va. (AP) - Another Virginia county is asking Gov. Terry McAuliffe to ensure that state environmental officials are up to the task of monitoring work on a proposed natural gas pipeline.

Franklin County adopted a resolution Tuesday seeking that additional oversight of construction of the Mountain Valley Pipeline. The concerns are erosion and the management of sediments.

The Roanoke Times reports that the county has joined Craig, Roanoke, Giles and Montgomery counties in asking McAuliffe to ensure that the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality is equipped to oversee the pipeline's construction.

The Mountain Valley Pipeline would extend 300 miles from northwestern West Virginia to Southside Virginia, delivering natural gas from the vast Marcellus shale deposit.

Federal regulators have oversight of interstate gas lines.
