RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Gov. Terry McAuliffe says he will block an effort by lawmakers to prevent capital projects at colleges and universities from moving forward until he signs construction contracts to replace the General Assembly Building.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that McAuliffe said during a meeting of the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia Monday that he'll remove language from the pending $2.1 billion bond bill that ties bonds for education projects to four pending projects on Capitol Square, including the renovation of the Virginia Supreme Court Building.
Lawmakers say they intended for the bonds only to be linked to the contracts for the General Assembly Building, Old City Hall and a new parking garage.
