UD Officials Issue Warning After Near Riot in Newark

I'm Shmacked website

There was a near riot in Newark on Monday night as more than a thousand University of Delaware students flooded onto Main Street lured by the possibility to being videotaped for “I’m Shmacked”.

It’s a website and social media channel that films college students in their environments and then puts the video on the Internet.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that the crowd showed up at around 11:30 p.m where a DJ was set up in the backyard of a home.

Police saw “I’m Shmacked” cameraman Marcus Hyde at the center of the disturbance and arrested him for disorderly conducted and then released on his own recognizance.

The party was hosted by two University of Delaware students who face a police summons for charges that range from underage drinking and noise violations to failing to obtain a special event permit.

Late yesterday University officials sent a letter to students warning “this behavior will not be tolerated at the University of Delaware.”
