NEWARK, Del. (AP) - The University of Delaware is offering people who've gotten parking tickets on campus to get out of paying their fines while helping those in need.

Beginning Monday, the university will allow parking citations to be paid for with non-perishable food items. Each food item will count as $5 toward the cost of a parking ticket less than 30 days old.

The food drive will run through the end of the semester on Dec. 12.

All donated items will be delivered to the Food Bank of Delaware the week of Dec. 15.
