Tourism in Delaware Expected Uptick

rehoboth dewey beach chamber of commerce

It may only be early February but the Rehoboth-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce says it’s getting inundated with calls by potential first-time visitors.

These are many who normally show up at the beaches that have been devastated by Hurricane Sandy.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that the Chamber has allocated another $20-thousand for marketing in communities that typically see residents visit the resorts in Long island, New York or northern New Jersey.

Delaware’s ocean resorts lost sand and saw some damage to fencing from Hurricane Sandy but that does not appear to be a deal breaker for tourism.

Delaware’s drive to attract tourists this season comes as the federal government is expected to provide $50 billion in aid for recovery from the superstorm .
