Toll Hike Coming for Weekend Drivers in Delaware

dmv.de.delaware.gov

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Weekend motorists on state Route 1 in Delaware will be paying higher tolls starting on Aug. 1.

State transportation officials said Monday that the weekend tolls will increase starting at 7 p.m. that day. The current weekend toll of $2 for regular passenger vehicles will increase to $3.

Drivers of all other vehicle classes, except oversize loads, also will see weekend tolls increase by a dollar.

State officials decided on the toll increases after lawmakers refused to consider Gov. Jack Markell's proposal for a 10-cent gasoline tax increase to help fund road projects.

Transportation officials say the new toll revenue will be used to pay for paving and other transportation projects.
