Tightening Up Bail Restrictions in Delaware

biopic

Delaware State prosecutor Kathleen Jennings has laid out plans that would allow judges to deny bail for suspects charged with crimes other than murder.

In addition it would also strongly urge them to strongly consider cash bail for violent crimes involving a firearm.

Jennings outlined her proposals for the Wilmington News Journal today.

State Attorney General Beau Biden along with three other lawmakers is expected to discuss the proposals.

Biden has said he wants judges to be able to consider holding those charged with serious crimes and who are considered too dangerous to be out on the streets.

Delaware’s constitution currently only allows for denial of bail in capital cases.

In 2009 an amendment to the state constitution passed the state Senate but failed to get a vote in the House.
