Sam’s Club on North Salisbury Boulevard is set to become the first Wal-Mart affiliated store in Maryland to get solar panels.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that the membership-only warehouse applied for a city permit to begin the $158-thousand project.

The California based SolarCity Corporation is expected to get the contract.

Wal-Mart spokeswoman Brooke Buchanan told the paper that this is the first such site for the company in Maryland.

She said that it generally takes six to eight weeks for construction with the panels covering 20-to-30 percent of a store’s energy needs.

A formal announcement is set for late this year or early next.
