GEORGETOWN, Del. (AP) - Delaware Electric says construction is underway on a 20-acre solar energy farm near Georgetown.

WXDE reports the solar farm is expected to be in operation in May.

Delaware Electric Cooperative says 16,000 solar panels are being installed at the site on East Trap Pond Road. The project will eventually provide enough energy to power about 500 homes.

The construction is creating about 40 temporary jobs for the $14 million project. The utility says the project is not expected to impact rates immediately.
