BALTIMORE (AP) - U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin is endorsing Democratic Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown for governor.

Cardin announced his support for Brown and his running mate Ken Ulman on Monday in Baltimore.

The Democratic senator says Brown has worked to improve Maryland schools, reduce domestic violence and create jobs to strengthen the middle class.

Brown also has won endorsements from Gov. Martin O'Malley, U.S. Sen. Barbara Mikulski and four of Maryland's seven Democratic congressmen for their party's nomination.

Brown is competing with state Del. Heather Mizeur and Attorney General Doug Gansler for the Democratic nomination.

The Republican race includes Charles County businessman Charles Lollar; Harford County Executive David Craig and Anne Arundel County Del. Ron George.

The primary is set for June 24.
