ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (AP) - Two Howard County high school students arrived at school with Confederate flags draped over their shoulders just days after a fellow student was disciplined for displaying the divisive symbol.
Howard schools spokeswoman Rebecca Amani-Dove says the Glenelg High School students displayed the flags on campus before the opening bell Wednesday.
She tells The Washington Post that the students complied after being told to remove them, and that things have been calm.
The incident comes after a Glenelg student was disciplined for unfurling a Confederate flag while standing atop stadium bleachers during the school's football game against River High School last Friday.
Amani-Dove declined to say how the student was disciplined.
Amani-Dove says carrying a Confederate flag isn't illegal, but school administrators can take action against "anything that causes disruption."
