Scooter Law Protest in Rehoboth Beach

Don Rush

In Rehoboth Beach a protest is under way against an ordinance that requires scooter users to buy a $40 permit to allow them to park in designated zones and non-metered areas around the resort.

City Manager Gregory Ferrese told the Salisbury Daily Times that 363 permits had been sold as of Tuesday and that there have not been any problems with enforcement.

But protest organizer Ken Hensey told the paper that he believes the law does not promote scooter usage in the resort adding many have been turned away from Rehoboth Beach because of the rules.

Hensey says there will be protests each weekend culminating in a major gathering on July 4th.

For his part Ferrese says he’s fine with the protest as long participants don’t violate city ordinances.

As for revisiting the ordinance the city official says he doesn’t expect that to happen
