SAT to Replace Smarter Balanced Assessment in Delaware?

creative commons

The president of the state Parent Teacher Association in Delaware Terri Hodges is calling on state officials to replace the Smarter Balanced Assessment tests with the SAT’s for high school juniors.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that she called the SAT a proven reliable test.

She adds that the SAT’s could also be used by students to apply for college.

The proposal comes as the First State has found itself embroiled in a debate over the number of tests that students take and how they should be used in schools.

Recently, Governor Jack Markell vetoed legislation that would have allowed parents to let their kids opt-out of the Smarter Balanced Assessment.

The News Journal reports that the toughest criticism of the Smarter Balanced Assessment comes from juniors who are already taking a number of other tests.

Around 10 percent of Delaware juniors have not taken the reading tests while 11 percent declined to take the math portion.
