After two days of grueling public testimony plans for the Route 113 around and south of Millsboro could be delayed again if residents and lawmakers can’t agree on a route.

Geogg Sundstrom, spokesman for the Delaware Department of Transportation told the Wilmington News Journalthat if there is no the political will put the project out there Governor Jack Markell has made it clear it won’t be built.

The $839 million project would rebuild a 16.5 mile stretch of the road that regularly witnesses major congestion east of Millsboro.

Governor Markell suspended the route selection process in early 2011 to find a solution and to complete an environmental impact study after questions were made by lawmakers and criticism over some leases that were aimed at protecting the corridors that might be used for the project.

Sundstrom told the paper that taxpayers have spent around $8 million on planning for the project over the last ten years.
