PENNSVILLE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - Emergency construction on the Delaware Memorial Bridge is causing traffic delays.

Construction crews on Wednesday are replacing three suspension ropes and crews have closed three of the four lanes on the Delaware-bound span that links New Jersey with Delaware.

Officials say traffic has been shifted to the right lane to reduce the load in the work area to maintain required structural factors of safety during this process. The speed limit is reduced to 35 mph.

Motorists heading south on the New Jersey Turnpike or Interstate 295 should expect significant delays and may want to seek alternate routes.

Officials expect the single left lane will remain closed for the immediate future once the emergency repairs are finished.
