PRMC Takes In Patients From "Cancer Support Community"

Peninsula Regional Medical Center will absorb a non-profit that specializes in taking some of the strain off of cancer patients.

The Delmarva chapter of Cancer Support Community is closing its doors but it services will now be carried out at PRMC.

Much of the organization’s activities in recent years have centered on hosting therapist-run cancer support groups.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports those meetings will now be offered free of charge at PRMC.

The paper says that the Delmarva chapter was founded in 1998 but in 2009 and 2010 it was in the red by $150-thousand.

The organization’s board slashed hours and service, while laying off its executive director.

PRMC stepped in last year to give the group a rent-free headquarters in the old radiology office off Riverside drive.
