DOVER, Del. (AP) - Candidates for public office in Delaware made their final appeals to voters as Tuesday's primary elections loomed.
This year's primary contests feature two races for statewide office.
Republicans Ken Simpler and Sher Valenzuela are vying for the GOP nomination for state treasurer. The winner of that primary faces Democrat Sean Barney, a former policy director for Gov. Jack Markell.
Democrats Brenda Mayrack and Ken Matlusky are competing for their party's nomination for state auditor. The winner advances to a November contest against incumbent Tom Wagner, the lone Republican holding statewide office in Delaware.
Tuesday's elections also include several legislative races where incumbent lawmakers are facing primary challengers. Those lawmakers include Democratic House Majority Leader Valerie Longhurst of Bear and longtime Democratic state senator Bobby Marshall of Wilmington.
