Attorney John Phoebus has quit as chair of the Lower
Shore Judicial Nominating Commission after his allegations that he fled the scene of a traffic accident.

Somerset County Sheriff Ronnie Howard told the Salisbury Daily Times that Phoebus faces a number of traffic charges from the collision on Friday night.

The Sheriff says that Phoebus was driving south on Route 413 just outside of Crisfield when his vehicle cross the center lane and hit a car in the northbound.

The paper reports that authorities say Phoebus then parked his car behind some small building and fled the scene on foot.
