In a surprise move Patrick Harker is leaving his job as president of the University of Delaware.
He is moving on to a 10 year appoint with the Philadelphia Federal Reserve Bank which helps formulate monetary policy for the country.
Harker wrote that he is leaving with mixed-emotions and said it had been an honor serving the University system over the last eight years.
And Gilchrist Sparks III, chairman of the UD Board of Trustees, said that Harker had left the University in a stronger position.
Among his achievements, he created the Office of Economic Innovation and Partnerships as well as laying the ground work the Science, Technology and Research Campus at the old Newark Chrysler auto plant.
But the research center has not come with without its troubles and faculty raises have been not been what some had hoped.
Meanwhile, tuition increases have been declining since the 2011-2012 academic term.
