Offshore Wind Project Could Be 5 Miles Further from Ocean City

US Wind has offered to locate its proposed wind turbine another 5 miles out from the coast of Ocean City.

The project features 248-megawatt wind farm up to 14 miles from the resort.

But Ocean City officials expressed concern about visual pollution from the 80-thousand acre site.

The new plan is expected to reduce the visibility of the turbines by 35 percent, according to the company.

But it would come at a higher coast with an approximate cost of $1 million for each mile of transmission line that will go to the Indian River Substation.

Council member and secretary Mary Knight told the Salisbury Daily Times that she was optimistic over the willingness of the company to compromise.

She added she would withhold judgment on the new proposal until she sees it.
