The last of the tents in Wilmington’s Spencer Plaza have disappeared ending that phase of what has become known as Occupy Delaware.
There were more than 20 tents that sprang up nine months ago as temporary homes for the protesters who hung in through the freezing rain and the searing heat.
But yesterday afternoon they were all gone.
Occupy Delaware decided to vacate the plaza a month earlier than was expected under a settlement reached with the city.
The protesters were to leave by September 10th when Wilmington is set to begin a $1.2 million renovation of the plaza replacing trees and adding new benches lighting and wheelchair accessible ramps.
