Occupy Delaware Evicted from Spencer Plaza

Occupy Delaware members have been evicted from Spencer Plaza in Wilmington after 5 months and 18 days.

Mayor James Baker notified the organization yesterday afternoon that it has until May 1st to dismantle its tent city.

Baker said that the encampment had become a public nuisance. He added that it desecrated the final resting place of Peter Spencer a freed slave who became an early religious and civil rights leader in Wilmington.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that by 6:30 pm only one woman sat in a tent after Baker issued his eviction order.

Mark Perry, an Occupy Delaware protester, told the paper that the group would be discussing how it might negotiate a solution with the city.
