New Labor Secretary for Maryland

Leonard Howie, biopic

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Gov. Martin O'Malley has named a new labor secretary for Maryland.

O'Malley announced Monday that Leonard Howie will head the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation.

Howie has served as deputy secretary for operations at the Maryland Department of Human Resources since November 2011.

Before that, he spent four and a half years as the labor department's deputy secretary.

Howie is a resident of College Park. He begins his work as the labor department's secretary on Oct. 8.
