New Castle County Police Chief Stepping Down

Leadership Delaware

NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP) - New Castle County's police chief will soon step down.

The News Journal of Wilmington reports that Police Chief Col. Elmer Setting announced his retirement in a letter on Friday to outgoing County Executive Thomas Gordon. Setting will leave the force on Jan. 3.

The 50-year-old Setting was appointed chief by Gordon in 2012. He's been with the department for 28 years.

His tenure was marked by technological upgrades, the introduction of body-worn cameras and an increase in the number of officers from 370 to 420.

Gordon says the department under Setting was "highly professional," with no shootings by officers, "no dog bites and no excessive force."
