ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - A Maryland measure would move the state's primary in presidential election years to the last Tuesday in April.
The Senate advanced the bill on Tuesday.
Under current law, the election would be on the first Tuesday in April of 2016. That means an early voting day would have been on Easter Sunday.
The measure initially pushed the primary back to the second Tuesday. But lawmakers decided to delay it further. That's after it was pointed out that holding it on the last Tuesday in April would align Maryland with other states in the area, creating a regional primary.
The Baltimore City municipal primary and the general elections will coincide with the presidential primary and general elections in 2016. They have traditionally been held in the year after the gubernatorial election.
