HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) - A medical marijuana company has won site-plan approval for a proposed facility near Hagerstown.

The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown reports that Washington County officials approved plans Monday for Green Thumb Industries LLC's medical marijuana center. The center would be built in the Hopewell Valley Industrial Park, west of Hagerstown.

The company says it will be able to begin construction immediately if awarded one of the state's 15 cultivation license after this year.

The Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission on Sept. 28 posted applications for cultivation, processing and dispensary operations in the state. Green Thumb spokesman Ben Kovler says the company intends to apply for licenses for all three operations.

Company officials estimate a total investment of about $12 million toward the local economy, including property acquisition and development, and through job creation.
