MD Septic Regulations Curtails Development in Somerset County

The new Maryland state laws that regulate the placement of septic tanks will seriously limit new construction in large parts of the mostly rural Somerset County.

The County Planning director Gary Pusey told the Commissioners yesterday that this will have a dramatic impact on residential development in the county.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that under the new state law counties are required to map out four zones with various restrictions.

The County Commissioners gave the green light for Pusey to move ahead with redefining what constitutes a minor subdivision from five to seven lots that could have septic systems.
