Maryland lawmakers joined union officials wanting to know about the stabbing of a correctional officer in the Western part of the state.

Prison officials reportedly knew of a threat against the guard but did not warn him.

State Senator James “Ed” Degrange, chair of the public safety subcommittee, and Delegate Curt Anderson, chair of the House criminal justice subcommittee, said they want to know who allowed the officer at the North Branch Correctional Institution to go unwarned.

The Baltimore Sun reports that both lawmakers questioned the safety at the facility since the prisoner was allegedly able to threaten the two officers.

In a handwritten note the prisoner demanded that they be removed just days before the stabbing.

Meanwhile, AFSCME which represents correctional officers, has called for the resignations of three corrections official who direct operations in Western Maryland.

Corrections officials have not responded to that demand.

The corrections guard who was stabbed was treated and released but has not been identified.

The second officer has been warned.
