JESSUP, Md. (AP) - Maryland correctional officials say an inmate was stabbed and burned with a "bleach-type liquid" at a medium-security state prison.

The Washington Post reports that the attack occurred at midday on Thursday at the Maryland Correctional Institution in Jessup.

Mark Vernarelli, a spokesman for the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, says the inmate's injuries were not life-threatening.

Fire officials say the 46-year-old inmate was taken to a burn center in Baltimore.

The name of the alleged assailant has not been released.
