Man Dies Trying to Save Teenager Off Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - Authorities say a man died after he jumped into the Atlantic Ocean to help a teenager who appeared to be trouble.

Multiple media outlets report that the 17-year-old male was able to make it to the shore in Sandbridge in Virginia Beach. But the man didn't.

Virginia Beach emergency officials say rescue crews found the man about an hour later and pulled him out of the water. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died.

One firefighter was injured during the rescue. Emergency officials say the firefighter was in good condition at a local hospital.

The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
