Major Academic Shakeup at Delaware State University

desu.edu

More than a quarter of Delaware State University’s majors are being cut.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that the elimination of the 23 programs will allow for expansion of academic programs that are expected to bring in more money.

The paper reports that the decision came during a vote in January.

The cuts in areas such as education and romance languages are one of the biggest changes in the history of the university.

University President Harry Williams said the leveling off of state and federal funding has forced the school to shift its priorities.

The New Journal reports that more than a quarter of the $140 million budget comes from the state.
