official photo

Former Assistant City Administrator Dr. Lore’ Chambers has filed suit for $750-thousand against the city of Salisbury and Mayor Jim Ireton after being fired from her job in July.

The lawsuit alleges that Ireton verbally berated her when she expressed interest the city administrator job.

WBOC reports that Chambers claims that the Mayor would not let up physically stalking her, yelling at her and otherwise trying to intimidate her in a public setting.

Her attorney Neil Dukes told the station that she has been upset and visibly shaken by the experience and had fully expected that she would succeed former Administrator John Pick.

The Mayor issued a statement denying the allegations and says he believes he followed city’s charter, code and employee handbook.

Ireton did nominate her along with interim city administrator Tom Stevenson for the permanent position of city administrator for the job of city administrator.

At the time, Ireton said, that he promised to nominate her for the job.
