Longtime News Journal Columnist Has Died

Wilmington News Journal

The Wilmington News Journal lost a longtime columnist this weekend.

On Sunday Ron Williams who often wrote sharp pieces on politics died from kidney failure.

Peggy Williams told the News Journal that while many may have not agreed with her husband’s opinion they at least acknowledged that he knew what he was talking about.

The paper’s Editorial Page Editor John Sweeney said that he knew the towns and the families of the politicians who guided the First State.

He began as a fulltime reporter for the News Journal in 1969 but left in the mid-1970’s to work for two newspapers in New Jersey until 1984.

He returned to the News Journal and worked there until 2011.
