Lift Off for Resupply Mission to Space Station

Wallops Flight Facility

It was liftoff time at Wallops Flight Facility as thousands gathered to witness the launch of the Orbital ATK Antares rocket this morning.

The time was 4:44 a.m.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that with a loud boom the rocket rose into the sky on its way to resupply the International Space Station.

It was carrying more than 3 tons of supplies as well as tiny satellites known as “CubeSats” which will be deployed after the Cygnus spacecraft leaves the space station on July 15th.

Inclement weather postponed the launch on Sunday.

It’s been more than three years since another rocket exploded on the launch pad resulting in $15 million worth of damage at the facility.
