License Concerns Over Delaware's Doggie Day Care

If you’re going to leave your pet at a doggie day care in Delaware it may not be licensed.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that there are around 100 licensed kennels in Delaware with more than half located in Sussex County.

But there are others that are not licensed such Dogtopia, a large day care for dogs in the northern part of Wilmington.

The owner Helen Jones told the News Journal that she was not aware that doggie day care would require a license like a kennel.

The paper reports that the Animal Welfare Task Force said two years ago that the requirement was not being fully enforced.

The Division of Public Health moved to ensure there were standards as well as inspections for those facilities that deal with strays and lost animals.

But the paper says the private kennels were not given a high priority.
