Ocean City kicked off it Walk Smart program yesterday with local officials and resort police during an event to encourage bicycle safety as well as pedestrian safety.
Officials credited the program with reducing by 50% the number of pedestrian incidents on the highways.
The Salisbury Daily Times reports there were no pedestrian fatalities on Coastal Highway last year.
Mayor Rick Meehan attributed the success of the program to the effort by everyone from local police to town employees who wore Walk Smart T-shirt to work on Fridays during the summer.
