DOVER, Del. (AP) - State officials say just fewer than 14,400 people have enrolled in Delaware's health insurance exchange under the federal Affordable Care Act. That's up from about 11,300 reported last month.
Health and Social Services Secretary Rita Landgraf also reported Thursday that 4,217 Delawareans were eligible for coverage under expanded Medicaid rules that the state adopted as part of an effort to reduce the number of uninsured.
State officials initially hoped to enroll 35,000 of the roughly 90,000 uninsured Delawareans for coverage under the ACA, but federal officials set a much lower benchmark of 8,000 last fall.
Officials do not know how many enrollees were previously uninsured because there is no mechanism in place to do so.
But officials say 81 percent of Delaware enrollees will be receiving premium subsidies.
