Habitat for Humanity Expands in Sussex County

Habitat for Humanity is expanding its home assistance in the Sussex County.

It has already fixed two homes in Laurel.

A pilot program was launched in last with five projects in Georgetown using money provided by the Delaware State Housing Authority.

Habitat Executive Director Kevin Gilmore told the Salisbury Daily Times that substandard housing continues to be a problem for the community.

The Delaware State Housing Authority says that 745 homeowners in Sussex County are living in unlivable conditions.

That’s far above 301 in Kent County and 500 in New Castle County.

Overall there are nearly 19-hundred owner-occupied homes in livable but poor condition in Sussex County.
