Guard Injured by Inmate at Sussex County Correctional Institution

prison bureau website

An officer at the Sussex County Correctional Institution was struck by an inmate this past Monday.

The Delaware Department of Correction said that it did not believe the officer was seriously injured.

The Correctional Officers Association of Delaware said that the inmate had been escorted back to his cell after being disruptive during the dinner meal.

They said it was there that the inmate charged and threw a punch hitting the officer on the side of his neck.

The prisoner was charged with assault.
