FREDERICK, Md. (AP) - A Maryland homebuilder praised by Gov. Martin O'Malley for its environmental innovation says it's struggling financially because it grew too fast.
The Frederick News-Post reported Monday that Stevensville-based Nexus EnergyHomes faces lawsuits from seven contractors and complaints from homeowners in its North Pointe development in Frederick.
The company has two other projects in Frederick County, one in Upper Marlboro and one in North Charleston, S.C.
Nexus official Mike Murphy says the company was never properly capitalized. He says it grew too fast and now needs new investment.
O'Malley praised Nexus in his 2013 State of the State speech for building homes designed to consume net zero energy.
The company won a national award last year from the National Association of Home Builders for its energy efficient designs.
