WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) - Four people were killed in a head-on collision after a deputy saw a vehicle going about 100 mph in Carroll County.
Cpl. Jon Light of the sheriff's office told local media outlets that the deputy saw the speeding Infiniti Tuesday afternoon, passing other vehicles on Maryland 31 and heading toward Westminster. The deputy turned his patrol car around to try to stop the Infiniti, but by the time the cruiser changed direction, the Infiniti was out of sight. The deputy then came upon the crash scene.
A preliminary investigation showed the Infiniti had passed another vehicle, clipped a second, then lost control and struck a Mercury Cougar head-on.
The Infiniti's driver and three people in the Mercury were killed.
