DEWEY BEACH, Del. (AP) - Four Dewey Beach police officers were injured after responding to a fight at a restaurant parking lot.

The Dewey Beach Police Department says in a news release that the incident began Sunday morning after a Dewey Beach officer witnessed 10 to 15 people fighting at the parking lot. Police say the officer tried to intervene before calling for assistance.

After more officers arrived, the crowd increased in size and more fights erupted. Police say several officers were engaged in physical altercations and some were thrown to the ground and kicked and punched.

Rehoboth Beach Police and Delaware State Police arrived to restore order.

All four injured officers were treated and released by the Rehoboth Beach Fire Department at the scene.

At least five people were arrested in connection with the altercation.
