Dover High Principal Gets Community Support to Stay

Controversy is swirling around the decision by the Capital Board of Education not to renew the contract with Evelyn Edney as principal of Dover High School.

The school board decided not to keep her on back in November even though Dover High school came off a state watch list and the state test scores were moving into positive territory.

Local residents at a news conference yesterday told reporters that she should be given a chance to continue what she has started.

Kay Dietz-Sass, president of the education board declined to say much about the decision to WBOC noting that public employees have a right to privacy and that the matter is confidential.

Last month Edney told the station that she was shocked by the board decision and after learning of the news conference said she was humbled by support from local residents.
