ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - A former Maryland state lawmaker has been sentenced to six months in jail for violating probation relating to a drunken boating case.
The Capital reports that Don Dwyer was sentenced Wednesday. Dwyer had been ordered to abstain from alcohol after he pleaded guilty to operating a vessel while under the influence. But Dwyer admitted to drinking six beers one night in May in Ocean City.
Special prosecutor Claude Devastey Jones says an interlock device in Dwyer's vehicle detected the alcohol the following morning. Jones also says the interlock device detected alcohol on his breath in late December.
The drunken boating charges stems from an August 2013 crash. Eight people were injured.
Dwyer, 57, began serving as a Republican Anne Arundel County delegate in 2003. He lost in the June primary last year.
