Dogfish to Open Hotel In Lewes

Dogfish Head Craft Brewery plans to purchase a hotel in downtown Lewes to start a new lodging business.

The Wilmington News Journal reports the Milton-based brewery announced Friday that it will buy the Vesuvio Motel in Lewes. It will reopen after a makeover as the Dogfish Inn, a 16-room motel.

Dogfish Head founder Sam Calagione says the hotel plan complements other brewery ventures, including distilling rum and vodka and selling a line of beer-infused foods.

Calagione says having a Dogfish-branded hotel will help bring "the opinion makers and the leaders in the world of craft beer here."

Dogfish Head was the 13th largest craft brewery in the U.S. in 2012 by sales volume and the 20th biggest domestic brewery overall.
